We have always called this food pot cabbage, although its name could just as well be cabbage soup… at least if there is some more broth used. Be it a pot or soup, good it is anyway! Continue reading “Pot cabbage / Cabbage soup”
Food circus: Easy, fun, delicious

There used to be one cat and a lot of mice in this house. The cat didn’t like beef and because of that there was no beef served at the table, only when the cat was away. Nowadays neither cat nor many mice are living here – just one beef loving mouse who could make beef steaks just as much as she likes. And it wouldn’t even be too expensive because one mouse can’t eat very much, even though she loves beef tenderloins and sirloins more than anything. Continue reading “Pepper steak and French fries”
It is easy to make a tasty meal from chicken and rice, whatever the method is to prepare it.
Chili pepper simmered with onion gives some extra kick for rice. Not very spicy, but enough to make it taste a bit different. And everyone can use as much chili as they want. Continue reading “Chili pilaf and chicken breasts”
In Finland makaronilaatikko (macaroni casserole) is one of the most popular home made traditional dishes. It was mostly festive food in Finland until the 1950s and it still is one of the casseroles to make during Christmas. Continue reading “Macaroni casserole”
Once again one of my daughters brought me a recipe she found from the internet, this time something to bake: a bundt cake that sounded delicious. And of course there was nothing else to do but start baking. Continue reading “Geisha chocolate and sour cream cake”
With the keywords “sweet and spicy chicken” we ended up on a website called Taste of Home and this recipe. And of course we had to make it right away, because the whole family just loves hot and spicy food (nowadays I consider myself also a friend of it). Continue reading “Sweet and spicy chicken”
August nights are getting darker little by little, but they are still pretty warm – they are actually just perfect after a very hot day – and making food outdoors is still possible. One never knows when the autumn weather will creep in and when one has to give up making delicious summer foods, let us enjoy as long as we can. Continue reading “Broiled whole whitefish with flattened oven potatoes”
At some point in this summer, Instagram came up with instructions for making flattened potatoes like those in the image. The idea stuck in my head, but after a while I unfortunately wasn’t quite sure how to make them anymore. Even worse is that I can’t remember the writer of the original recipe (which I greatly apologize for: would have been polite to mention it – so if anyone knows where the recipe might originally come from, please let me know!). Continue reading “Flattened oven potatoes”
Summer and barbecuing definitely belong together… and so do wasps. Especially the long-lasting hot weather and the withering of flowers makes them very hungry and fierce. The scent of grilled food attracts wasps to the annoyance of those eating outside and at worst there might be dozens of them spinning on the edge of a plate or a drinking glass. They seem to be very fond of grilled meat, just as we people are.
This kind of stew does not necessarily need a recipe to prepare it, one just uses those ingredients he or she likes or happens to have. It is good when served with any kind of meat or fish, but tastes great just in itself. Continue reading “Pan fried potatoes and vegetables”
