About me

My name is Sirkku, the mother of three daughters, grandmother of four beautiful grandchildren, not to mention a “mom” to my four dogs and some fish in a small aquarium. I am retired now, but there is more than enough to do in this old house and garden to keep me busy so I am at no risk of getting stuck on the living room couch. However since I am retired I can do whatever I want, whenever I want to, which also includes cooking. The “hurry up and feed the family before this or that” times are gone and now the joy of cooking has returned.

A little while ago one of my daughters gave me a new and pretty good SLR camera, and when I finally got bored with taking pictures of dogs and fish I turned to food. I have always been a good cook, but this challenged me on a whole new level – how to arrange the different dishes so that they looked good in the pictures as well.

Normally all the food has been placed on the table and everyone has helped themselves to as much food as they wanted to, so I have never had the need to think about the visual aspect of the meal. To be honest that is exactly how it is going to be in the future as well, but from now on I will set aside my own plate, arrange the food properly and then photograph it before I start eating. Of course this is easier said than done. While some pictures turn out great, others do not, something I assume is familiar to most photographers. Then again if I am not happy with the picture I still have a great meal, and the next time I might have an excellent picture to go with it.

Finally my youngest daughter approached me with the idea of starting a blog. I had my doubts in the beginning, but then little by little I started to warm up to the idea – and here I am, an owner of a brand new blog, and I am really excited about it.

Easy, fun and delicious – that is my philosophy when it comes to cooking. My mother and my grandmothers have taught me the basics, while the rest of my craft has been learnt from numerous cookbooks, recipes on the internet, not to mention daring to experiment with recipes, making them into new and improved versions of the meals.

So please, step inside and welcome to my circus.
